The Plug-In Hybrid powertrain will consist of a 2.0L Drive-E I-4 gasoline engine fitted with both a supercharger and a turbocharger and putting out 318 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. In addition there will be two electric motors - one between the engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission offering 46 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque that will be routed to the front wheels when conditions demand it, and the other powering the rear wheels and adding 82 hp and 177 lb-ft to the mix.
The total output between these powerplants looks to be 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque, allowing the XC90 to hit 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. Early reports indicate an EPA rating of 59 MPGe in Hybrid mode.

Mazda MX-5 Miata 16 Integrated N/A Redesign The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will be redesigned from the ground up.
It will be lighter and smaller and incorporate Mazda's full suite of Skyactiv fuel-efficiency technologies. The current Miata's 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes way for the new-generation Skyactiv version.
It's the same size and should be more efficient. In the Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback, this engine makes 155 horsepower -- less, actually, than the outgoing Miata's -- but more low-end torque.
Combined with the new Miata's weight loss, this new powertrain promises fun and snappy performance. A six-speed manual transmission will remain standard (an automatic is optional) because this is, after all, a Miata.

Here are some of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show highlights in a few categories:

Debuts:

Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class 16 Coupe GLE450 AMG 3.0L V-6 9-Spd AT AWD

Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class 16 Coupe: Mercedes-Benz is launching a premium crossover to replace the M-Class. The GLE-Class Coupe is the first bodystyle to be released under the new nameplate. While it is called coupe, the GLE-Class Coupe is actually a fastback 4-Door CUV with a sloping roofline and sporty styling. The GLE-Class was designed to compete directly with the BMW X6, but it may see competition from the redesigned Audi Q7 that is also debuting in Detroit, as well as the Land Rover Range Rover Sport and Porsche Cayenne.

2016 Buick Cascada Convertible

Buick Cascada 16 Convertible: Buick unveiled it's first convertible model in 25 years at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The Cascada is a 4-seat compact convertible that has already been on sale in Europe under the Opel brand. The Cascada shares a platform with the Buick Verano, but will see a new powertrain - a 1.6L I-4 using direct-injection and a turbocharger to make 200 hp and 206 lb ft of torque, or 221 lb ft using an 'overboost' mode. This new Buick Convertible will be front wheel drive, and power will connect the engine and drive wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The front suspension will make use of a HiPer strut arrangement from the Buick Regal, while also reflecting it's Verano underpinnings in it's torsion beam rear suspension. The exterior changes versus the Opel version include Buick's trademark 'waterfall' grille, chrome accents to give the rear end a more familial feel, and standard 20 inch wheels. The convertible's softtop will lower itself in 17 seconds and can reportedly be lowered while travelling up to 31 miles per hour. The interior includes the use of soft-touch materials, as well as a host of infotainment features such as Buick's IntelliLink system and 4G LTE internet connectivity. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel will also be available.

2015 Ram ProMaster City

Ram ProMaster City 15: The Detroit Auto Show provides a look at the true production version of the RAM Promaster City going on sale in mid-January 2015. The ProMaster City competes directly with Nissan's NV200 and it's platform-mate, the Chevrolet City Express, as well as Ford's Transit Connect. This same platform is used overseas where it is sold as the Fiat Doblo. The ProMaster City will be powered by a 184 horsepower 2.4L Tigershark engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, and will be available in front- or all-wheel-drive.

Redesigns:

2016 Audi Q7

Audi Q7 16: Audi unveiled the second generation Q7 SUV at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. The Q7 redesign is one of the last to use Audi's current design language, with subsequent redesigns seeing influences from the recent Audi Prologue Concept. The new design takes on a sleeker, more wagon-like profile, and integrates the tapered 'Singleframe" grille shape with aluminum surround seen on other recent Audis. The extensive use of aluminum and high-strength steel brings the overall weight down more than 700 pounds compared to the outgoing Q7. While the new design is shorter and narrower than before, interior room increases in both the 1st and 2nd Rows. The 2016 Q7 will be powered by the familiar 3.0L TFSI V-6 and 3.0L TDI V-6 engines mated to an 8-speed tiptronic transmission and quattro all-wheel-drive, and will soon be available as a Plug-In Hybrid model packaged with a diesel engine. There will be optional air suspension that increases the towing capacity, and Audi is now offering an MMI-based 'trailer assistant' feature that can automatically steer the Q7 while reversing with a load.

2016 Chevrolet Volt

Chevrolet Volt 16: Chevrolet debuted the next generation range-extended electric Volt model at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The redesigned Volt moves to GM's new D2XX compact car platform and has a sleeker design than before. The overall length increases 3.3 inches, the wheelbase by 0.4 inches, and the width by 0.8 inches compared to the original Volt - these changes, along with a new rear seat design, mean that the new Volt now seats five passengers instead of four. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt uses a second-generation Voltec electric powertrain as well as a larger displacement extended-range inline-4 engine - now up 0.1 liters to 1.5. This engine uses direct-injection, a cast-aluminum block and headers, cooled exhaust-gas recirculation, and has a 12.5:1 compression ratio. The powertrain changes were heavily influenced by opinions and driving behavior data collected from owners of the current Volt model who utilized the electric only mode more often than intial projections be charging frequently - twice a day on average to avoid using gasoline. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt is stated as having a 20 percent improvement in acceleration compared to the previous model thanks to the new drive unit and an overall weight reduction. Exterior differences compared to the first generation model include a more rounded nose, new grille shapes, softened shapes, and a rising beltline that gives the roof a longer and lower appearance. The interior features an 8-inch infotainment screen and separate HVAC controls as well as a reconfigurable instrument cluster providing four levels of information. The regenerative braking system can be adjusted using steering wheel mounted paddles (akin to paddle shifters) for either light or strong regeneration when the throttle is disengaged. A wireless charging pad for mobile devices will be optional and location-based recharging can be turned on or off using a smartphone's GPS signal.
